Tucking Fouchers Win Canterbury Summer League

There were new winners of the Canterbury Summer Touch League in its 20th year as Tucking Fouchers defeated Flankers in the Social League One final while Burgess Hodgson won Social League Two.

Summer League veterans the Wombles headed into this year’s competition aiming for a third consecutive title but their hopes were ended at the semi-final stage last week by the youthful skills of the Flankers. Flankers’ reward was a place in the Social League One final against the pre-event favourites, Tucking Fouchers, who were stacked with high-level touch experience. The final was extremely close with the teams ultimately separated by just a single score as the newly-formed Tucking Fouchers won the league at their first attempt with a 9-8 victory.

In the other game at the top end, Touching Turkeys defeated Wombles in the third-place play-off. In the bottom half of League One, Leg Catchers won the plate final against Ruck Off.

Each week our referees cast their votes for the most valuable male and female players in each match and these votes were tallied to determine the overall MVPs for the season. Owain Collins of Leg Catchers was this year’s League One male MVP while the female MVP prize was shared between Erin Collins of Ruck Off and Ella Jenkins from Touching Turkeys.

The Social League Two final was contested between Burgess Hodgson and Scoregasms after the latter’s shock victory over the previously unbeaten Professors in last week’s semi-finals. Burgess Hodgson took early control of the final and ran out 9-4 winners. Their players Will Rayner and Emily Williams were named the 2026 League Two male and female MVPs.

The Professors took third place with victory over Oil Tankers while Exiles won the League Two plate final 8-2 against Misfits.
